Beautiful example of early Roman art depicted on an oil lamp featuring Amor (Eros), the son of Venus (Aphrodite), wearing flowing cloak draped around his shoulders. He strides to the right with wings extended. The wide shoulder of the lamp is decorated with a floral wreath pattern often used to symbolize success or victory. Short, round nozzle. Molded from very fine tan clay with traces of original red-brown slip. The lamp reflects the dignity and subtle beauty of 1st Century AD Roman art during Pax Romana, a period of unprecedented prosperity and peace in the Roman Empire.
Length: 4.3 in. (10.9 cm)
Condition: Intact as shown (top portion of the ring handle missing but does not detract). Very good detail.
